Amazon takes a big step forward to reduce its dependency on Intel regarding a crucial element for your cloud service.
The online retailer presented Monday its own server processors and noted that Graviton chips provide support for new versions of their EC2 cloud service. Until now, Amazon and other large companies offering these services used Intel Xeon chips almost exclusively.
The company will implement a rebate-based strategy that has added customers in the past. He added that the cloud service supported by Graviton is available for a "much lower cost"other offers using Intel processors.
This is the second time of the month that Amazon confronts the division of Intel's server chips. On November 6, the company announced that it would offer services hosted on computers using Advanced Micro Devices.
Intel processors are present in more than 98% of the world's servers and owners of large data centers like Amazon, Microsoft and Google have become some of its major customers.
