With a total of 36,700 contracts traded up to now in November and one day after the end of the month, the volume traded in futures and options on WTI crude oil set a new monthly record since the launch of these contracts in June 2011.

The previous record was April of this year, with a total of 31,743 contracts. These contracts, listed in Rofex, are operated as part of the interconnection agreement with MATba. Each WTI crude contract is equivalent to 10 barrels of oil. At maturity, it is wound up financially on the basis of the WTI futures prices negotiated in New York.

"In the current context of high volatility in the price of crude oil internationally, and given the fact that the reference of the local hydrocarbon industry in recent years has migrated to North Sea oil, the possibility to develop a new contract based on the Brent Brute price to generate a new hedge alternative for the local hydrocarbon industry, "said Rofex.
