Beginning its press conference with a minute of silence for the victims of "brutal repression", the proclaimed interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, badured that Venezuelans "awoke from the nightmare" after being self – named on January 23rd.

He also said that the Cuban armed forces had to leave the country. "This is not against our Cuban brothers, but against the armed forces and a question of sovereignty," he said.

In his reading of the countries holding his presidency, he mentioned Canada, the United States, Mercosur and, in particular, the European Union, for which he called for applause. "We got in two days what they could not get in six years," he said.
