Civil defense officials confirmed that in addition to the 305 missing persons, 192 have been saved. Yesterday, 21 bodies were found.
The Civil Defense of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais announced last night that the toll of the Brumadinho disaster has risen to 58. According to Lt. Col. Flávio Godinho, 305 people are still missing. This number has increased because new families have made new presentations in search of their loved ones. According to him, 192 rescues have been made so far.
The spokesman of the fire department, Lt. Pedro Aihara, confirmed that one of them had found a new group with a deceased, but could not specify the exact number.
At the same time, the local authorities indicated that there was no risk of further rupture and that most of the water contained in the dam was already pumped. There are 140,000 cubic meters of water left.
Aihara explained that there were 14 priority research points. One of them is a dining room, where the mud reaches 15 meters. Nearby there is a residence with three lifeless victims.
Yesterday morning, rescue work in Brumadinho was interrupted by fog and bad weather.
The entire risk area has been isolated so that rescues can be done with greater security. Aihara also said that volunteer help is not necessary because it is a place of risk.
