China on Tuesday accused the United States of "political manipulation" in the Huawei case, after Washington reported the charges against the Chinese telecommunications giant and its chief financial officer, currently detained in Canada.
"The United States is using the power of the state to discredit and attack some Chinese companies with the aim of strangling their operations, which are legitimate and legal," Geng Shuang, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said in a statement.
"Behind that, there are strong political observations, political manipulations", he added.
The US Department of Justice has announced 13 counts of indictment, related to violations of US sanctions against Iran, against the Chinese group and its Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, arrested in Canada in December at the request of US researchers.
In parallel, charged two Huawei subsidiaries, mainly from the badociation of criminals to steal trade secrets or even the US mobile technology T-Mobile.
China declared "deeply concerned" by open case against Huawei and urged the US Department of Justice to immediately abandon his extradition request for Meng Wanzhou.
"We urge the United States to end the unjustifiable crackdown on Chinese companies, including Huawei, and to treat Chinese companies in an objective and equal manner."said Geng, who also asked Canada to release Meng Wanzhou.
