The "murder" of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was "planned and perpetrated by representatives of Saudi Arabia", said Thursday the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Agnes Callamard.
The rapporteur explained in a statement that she had "proof" of this "premeditated murder".
Callamard released the statement on the return of a investigation mission to Turkey around this murder that took place on October 2 at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul.
The rapporteur denounced the recourse to diplomatic "immunity" to commit murder with "impunity".
"The evidence gathered during my mission in Turkey shows (…) that Khashoggi was the victim of a brutal and premeditated murder, planned and perpetrated by representatives of the Saudi state, "he said.
The journalist's body, who wrote regularly for the newspaper Washington Post, has not been found yet, more than four months after his death.
Last January The UN Human Rights Office said it could not judge the justice of a process underway in Saudi Arabia about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, but said that in any case, "that is not enough".
Asked about reports that a Saudi prosecutor has asked for the death sentence for five suspects during the October 2 murder, the spokeswoman said Ravina Shamdasani reiterated the appeal of the Human Rights Bureau to an independent investigation "with international involvement".
The office of Human rights of the United Nations still oppose the death penalty, he added.
