Bertha Loaiza learned at the age of 17 that her mother had committed suicide by throwing herself into a bridge with her in his armswhen he was barely 3 years old. The story was hidden by his grandparents but he now knows the truth.

It was August 4, 1985 when his mother, Angélica Gómez, was launched from Coronado Bridge, in San Diego, California, with his little daughter in his arms.

On seeing the tragic scene, two fishermen tried to save them, but only the 3-year-old responded to first aid: they started calling it "the miracle girl" for surviving such a fall (the researchers determined that the mother's body served as a shield for her daughter). As a result of this, he suffered hip fracture and had a problem in the right eye.
