"In Venezuela, human rights are violated and we must intervene," Germany's position at the United Nations Security Council

Christoph Heusgen, Germany's ambbadador to the United Nations, said Tuesday at the Security Council meeting that The political, economic and social crisis in Venezuela "constitutes a threat to international peace and security".

Heusgen explained his position, estimating that 3.4 million refugees have left Venezuela and are now living in various countries of South America, which creates instability in the region.

Europeans also called for the organization of "free, transparent and credible" presidential elections in Venezuela and called for the avoidance of the use of force.
