The head of the Venezuelan parliament, Juan Guaidó, recognized as president of the country by about fifty governments, goes to Asunción to meet the President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez.
"Tomorrow (Friday), we will receive the visit of our dear friend, President Juan Guaidó, at the Palacio de López.", Abdo Benítez published on his Twitter account, referring to the seat of the Paraguayan government.
With your visit to Paraguay, Guaidó responds to the support shown by the government of Abdo Benítez to the Venezuelan opposition since the beginning of his term in August.
In his inaugural speech, the Paraguayan President he had already expressed his solidarity with the Venezuelan people, and he repeated this message last September, during his first address to the United Nations Assembly in New York.
His words were turned into acts last January, when he announced that Paraguay was breaking off diplomatic relations with Venezuela and the closing of the Paraguayan embbady in Caracas after the oath of Nicolás Maduro for his second term, which was not recognized by the opposition or by a large part of the international community.
With this decision, Paraguay has become the first country in the world to sever diplomatic relations with the Maduro Executive.
In addition, during his participation in the Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the head of the Paraguayan State badured that he would recognize Mr. Guaidó as president of Venezuela and reiterated it on his return in Paraguay.
The participation of Abdo Benítez in the cause of the Venezuelan opposition led him last weekend in the Colombian city of Cúcutaon the border with Venezuela to participate in a concert for Venezuelans and the delivery of humanitarian aid to that country.
The Government of Paraguay also acknowledged "appropriate interlocutor"in the country to David Olson, appointed by the head of the Parliament of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó.
Guaidó arrived in Brasilia from Bogota, aboard a Colombian air force plane, after leaving his country by land for Colombia last Friday.
The National Assembly of Venezuela (AN, Parliament), with a majority of opposition, on Wednesday allowed Mr Guaidó to stay out of the country for a period of more than five consecutive days.
