Arthur Araújo Lula da Silva, grandson of 7-year-old former president Luiz Inácio Lula, has died today. The child died at 12:11 in the morning due to "worsening of the infectious state of a meningococcal menigitis", says the medical report published by the hospital Bartira de Santo André, city of Grand San Paablo.

The patient, the son of Marlene Araújo and Sandro Luis Lula da Silva, had been admitted in an emergency due to a feverish situation at 7:20 this Friday.

"President Lula has lost his grandson, president, sadness, strength, we are at your side, feel our embrace and our solidarity," wrote the president of PT Gleisi Hoffmann on social networks.

Lula has been detained since April last year at the Curitiba Federal Police Directorate, serving a sentence of the former judge and current "substitute" judge Sargio Moro.

At the end of January, the authorities banned him from going to San Pablo to participate in the activities of his older brother Genival "Vavá" da Silva, 79, who died of cancer.

This time, "we will do everything" so that the former president can witness the wake of his grandson, wrote Hoffmann, who repeatedly criticized the regime of arrest that had been imposed.

Lula is in a solitary cell on the fourth floor of the Monitoring Committee where he can only go out for sunbathing and without permission to get in touch with other inmates.

Last October, the authorities did not allow him to leave the Superintendency to vote and journalists were not allowed to interview him, rights that help all Brazilian citizens deprived of their liberty.

Yesterday, it was announced that Lula could not receive visitors during Carnival, another measure considered exceptional.
