Israel and Russia will work together to obtain the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Syria

Israel and Russia will work as a team to achieve the withdrawal of all foreign troops deployed in Syria since the beginning of the civil war, announced Sunday the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"President Vladimir Putin and I are in agreement on the common goal of to achieve the withdrawal of foreign troops coming to Syria since the beginning of the war. We have agreed to form a joint team to achieve this goal and other goals, "said Netanyahu, who met Putin in Moscow on Wednesday.

Israel it seeks to prevent the Iranian troops, its declared enemy, from remaining deployed in Syria once the war is over.

Tehran and Moscow are allies of dictator Bashar al-Assad.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), Thousands of Iranian fighters have been deployed in Syria for more than seven years of war.

Israel has conducted hundreds of attacks against Iranian targets and Hezbollah in Syria. These operations were largely ignored by Russia, which intervened militarily on behalf of Al Assad in 2015.

Netanyahu said that under the auspices of President Putin last week, he had clearly "clearly stated" that these attacks will continue, with an emergency telephone line between Israelis and Russians to avoid accidental clashes between the two countries.
