The mbadive power outage that affects more than 48 hours in 22 of Venezuela's 23 states has claimed the lives of at least 15 kidney patients who died after the paralysis of dialysis services.
This was reported Saturday by the coalition of NGOs for the right to health and life (Codevida).
"Between yesterday and today, we have 15 deaths due to lack of dialysis, nine of whom died in Zulia, two in Trujillo and four in Pérez Carreño de Caracas Hospital," said the director. Francisco Valencia during a dialogue with the AFP news agency.
Kidney patients live very critical hours due to the lack of electricity in at least 95% of the 139 dialysis units in Venezuela.
"The situation of people with kidney failure is very difficult and critical, we are talking about about 95% of dialysis units, which today would reach 100%, are paralyzed, because of the Interrupted electricity, said Valencia, also a kidney transplant.
"In the few dialysis units where there were power plants, it was difficult to reconnect them because of the lack of fuel," he warned.
