The Venezuelan Parliament on Monday authorized self-proclaimed interim President Juan Guaidó to declare the "state of national alert" for the mbadive blackout that the country undergoes for four days.
Members of the opposition caucus have unanimously approved the decree, which will govern for a month. In the document, they indicate that the "excuses" of Nicolás Maduro's government are "full of lies and great cynicism" and implicate the disinvestment of Chavismo.
Most of Venezuela remains without electricity since last Thursday at 17:00 local time, in case of failure of the Guri hydropower plant, the largest in the country, which serves about 70% of the territory.
For its part, Maduro said that the installation had suffered a "cyber attack" from the United States, a country to which it is generally addressed whenever a serious problem is exposed in its management.
After approving the decree of the opposition, Guaidó badured MPs that he was in talks with several governments of the region and with companies around the world, able to advise Venezuela so that he can increase its electricity production.
In turn, he reiterated his call to the armed forces to turn their backs on Maduro and not to repress the people who were demonstrating in several parts of the country to demand the end of the crisis. "You already know that the commander-in-chief has failed, that he can not speak for himself, that he can not even confront them," he concluded.
Power outages are common in Venezuela, but they became chronic for years in the West Zone. Now they are spreading to Caracas and other regions.
