During a historic trip, 60 family members of the last 20 recently identified soldiers surrendered last Wednesday at Darwin Cemetery, in the Falkland Islands, and a photographer from Mendoza was on the lookout.
Gerardo Gómez's camera accompanied the trip of only 24 hours in the islands, where were added family members of the last 12 soldiers who are still waiting to be identified during the pbadage of the DNA.
It was a new humanitarian trip, the first had taken place in 2017, and everything was marked by emotion at the cemetery, which was part of a moving ceremony during which they paid tribute to those who died almost 37 years after the end of the war.
During the visit, a historic event took place: for the first time, since 1982, an agreement had been reached for the deployment of an Argentine flag in the Falklands.
British Colonel Geoffrey Cardozo and the Falklands veteran Julio Aro, president of Fundación No Me Olvides, were part of the delegation and played a key role in the identification of the graves. Both are nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as a result of this task.
