From 1 April, the "de-regionalization" plan, which involves the transfer to Ezeiza of more than 100 international flights of airlines, Latam, Gol and Amaszonas, will be launched.

From 1 April, the cabotage and international flights map will be organized in a new way. The plan called "de-regionalization of the Aeroparque" is about to take the final step, which has caused changes in the commercial market.

In 2017, the

Ministry of transportation

approved resolution 476-E / 2017, published in the Official Journal, which provides that from 1 April all international services, with the exception of flights to Uruguay, will be operated

Ezeiza

, while Aeroparque will be exclusively for cabotage flights.

According to the resolution, Aeroparque "presents a relative increase in daily operations and congestion is compounded by the seasonality of regional services", which means that leaving international flights at Jorge Newbery airport spawn operational complications , for which the exit measure of the international segment concentrated at Ezeiza was adopted.

Half of the so-called regional flights were transferred in May last year, when 110 weekly frequencies were transferred, according to data from the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC). In the coming days, the rest of the scheduled flights will be transferred. In total, four airlines operate international flights to Aeroparque:

Aerolineas Argentinas

, Latam, Gol and Amaszonas.

The airlines have to transfer to Ezeiza an average of 56 daily flights to Porto Seguro, Florianópolis, Rio de Janeiro, San Pablo, Salvador de Bahia, Curitiba, Santiago de Chile, Asunción and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, among other destinations. In addition, two new flights to Ezeiza to Montevideo will be added to those that the company will continue to offer from Aeroparque, as well as Punta del Este. Latam will transfer 35 flights, including 21 weekly flights to Santiago de Chile and 14 to San Pablo. Gol has already transferred his 11 frequencies to San Pablo and Amaszonas will make six flights between Ezeiza and Asunción.

Although the measure encourages a simpler operational logistic organization, some criticisms have been made in the sector. First, it is more difficult for pbadengers to access Ezeiza, especially for short-distance regional flights, rather than flying from Aeroparque, which is a narrow option for people living in the city. .

"For them, this represents a waste of costs, time and logistics, and it breaks the equation for the pbadenger traveling in business," says a sector source complaint.

In the government, they said that the main objective of the reorganization is that Aeroparque's capacity is not saturated and that it takes advantage of the available space in Ezeiza.

"This is part of a reorganization leading to departures from other airports." Aeroparque is the one with the highest pbadenger traffic in the country and Ezeiza, the largest in size, could have a greater capacity in airspace and infrastructure, "they claimed in the transport portfolio.

On the other hand, regulations have made it necessary to rethink other strategies for the different airlines that have to adapt to the new regulations. For example, Aerolineas Argentinas predicts that Ezeiza will function as a stopover for international flights and, on this basis, "will generate a more competitive trade".

"We are badyzing ways to link regional flights to international flights to improve pbadenger sales by combining schedules to minimize time and improve the efficiency of airport use," he said. they explained.

With this objective, Aerolíneas seeks to articulate the arrivals and departures of Ezeiza with the flights of its SkyTeam commercial partners, among which Alitalia, Air Europa and Air France, among other operators.

Different segments

Another of the points at the origin of the malaise was the qualification for international flights of Palomar, as it was considered unfair competition, mainly for those who perform regional flights and, once again, arrive at Ezeiza is farther away if he thinks of a short flight. .

However, the government understands that each airport addresses pbadengers of different segments. "There is no competition, but El Palomar is an airport
low costwhich has different advantages for operators. Thus, the pbadenger who goes to Palomar is not the same as the one who chooses the lines that operate at Ezeiza, "official sources said.

The airlines have already reorganized the scheduling of their flights to and from Ezeiza starting next month, taking into account that the reorganization plan has been in effect since 2017.

Both looks

  • With the sole exception of Uruguay, all international flight services will start from Ezeiza as of April 1, with the aim of avoiding Aeroparque saturation and taking advantage of available spaces in the main airport of the country.
  • The measure concerns four companies: the airlines, Latam, Gol and Amaszonas, which will have to transfer to Ezeiza more than 100 flights operated by Aeroparque up to now.
  • This new provision will require airlines to reformulate their business strategy to articulate the arrivals and departures of Ezeiza with the flights of its SkyTeam business partners, such as Alitalia, Air Europa and Air France.
  • The measure raises some criticisms that warn that for shorter flights, the transfer to Ezeiza involves a loss of time and higher operating costs.
