At least three people were killed and several others injured at a Dutch tram station when a man started shooting at those present. The episode occurred at 10:45 am local time, at the stop of October 24, located west of the city of Utrecht, in the center of the country. Dutch police confirmed that it could act as a possible "terrorist act". The Prime Minister canceled his official activities and warned that the government "is very worried".

According to witnesses, a man allegedly pulled out a firearm and began shooting randomly and continuously against pedestrians. He then escaped and is still a fugitive. Some argue that they came to see more of a person involved in the shooting, although, for now, authorities have only confirmed the presence of an attacker.

The severity of the wounded transferred to neighboring hospitals is still unclear. In the shooting zone, which is still closed, the emergency services, several helicopters and an anti – terrorist unit of the Dutch police are working.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has canceled all activities on his agenda, including a meeting with coalition parties, for this "worrying situation" and warned that the government "was very concerned".

The Dutch police published the photo of the suspect, a man of Turkish origin, whom they managed to identify thanks to the security cameras of the station. "Police search Gokmen Tanis, 37 (born in Turkey), as part of the incident this morning," the Utrecht police said on Twitter. "Do not approach him," they added.
