Young people have shown that protecting the environment is their "ethical floor"

Each era has an ethical brand, a set of values that are unique to it and that define it. Who could have imagined, 30 years ago, a worldwide mobilization, with his counterpart also in Argentina, asking for answers to the threat of climate change?

The numerical calculation is not negligible: a million and a half people mobilized in different cities of the world are asking for concrete government actions in favor of the defense of the environment. How many requests does such a call attract?

It was only possible that the world march last week because those who realize it are young for whom time indicates that the value of environmental protection is not a negotiable element.

For the previous generation, which is basically the one that governs today, and for the previous ones even more, the environment is a luxury that societies grant after answering basic questions.

Young people say that this luxury is now fundamental because it is survival itself. And with that, without half-measures, they question the pattern of production and consumption of previous generations: a resource-exploitation system that puts us before the abyss can not be considered a progress, they said. Theor the pope himself says: it is necessary to redefine progress, he writes in the environmental encyclical Laudato Si.

"We want climate change to be on the political agenda," they said, so it's clear that they do not subscribe to the marketing modality of blaming everything citizen who walks home "in leg and shirt", losing heating in winter or do not turn the air conditioner on 24 degrees and do not pull the paper through the window of the car. The absence of public policy and the commitment of governments were the predominant notion of ecological protest.

In Australia, the next national elections are decided between those who wish to maintain a system based on fossil fuels or those who actually encourage a complete change in the way of obtaining energy. Faced with this, the worst thing that ruling adults can do is to watch the boys tenderly and tell them "they will pbad".

Youth protest has been directed to governments, those who decide. Otherwise, they provide paraphrastic slogans of the more ideological era, they will be swept away by the wind of history, that is, wind energy.
