Shooting in a tram in the Netherlands: at least three dead and several wounded

At least three people were killed and several others wounded on Monday during a shootout against a streetcar in the western part of the city of Utrecht, in central Holland. Local police have announced that they are investigating a "possible mobile terrorist" behind the shot and that the alert level has been maximized.

The Utrecht police are looking for Gökman Tanis, a 37-year-old Turkish citizen, suspected of having participated in the attack on the local tram network located near the 24 October Square in this Dutch city. The image of the man was recorded inside the tram in which he had launched the attack and printed the time 10.41, a few minutes before the start of the shoot which took place at 6:45 in Argentina.

"Do not approach, but call Opsporingstip line 0800-6070 directly", asks the police, who still maintains the search operation of the attacker who would have escaped in a red car.

According to witnesses, a man took out a firearm and started firing randomly and continuously at people. "The surrounding areas have been cordoned off and we are investigating the problem," said the Dutch police. A police spokesman told the newspaper "Algemeen Dagblad" that the author of the shooting had escaped from the scene.

The police deployed an operation with anti-terrorist unit agents to try to arrest the person responsible for the shooting, which resulted in the suspension of the tram service in this section.

Several ambulances were moved to the scene and the medical service sent three helicopters to evacuate the most seriously wounded to hospitals.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte canceled a meeting he had with the coalition parties over this "worrying situation" and warned the government "is very worried".
