The Mexico City police are investigating seven gangs operating in the capital that, if not fought, would become cartels like La Unión Tepito.
According to local authorities, these are young people aged 16 to 23, without any structure or organization, but very violent. They operate in the northern area of Magdalena Contreras, north of Alvaro Obregón, north of Miguel Hidalgo and Tlalpan.
The capital police are already conducting investigations and intelligence activities in the areas of operation of these gangs: "If no action is taken, these groups will become cartels in a few years, as simple as that, "said Jesús Orta Martínez, CdMx Public Security Secretary.
Analysis of data from the Secretariat's public inquiries revealed that 60% of the violence in Mexico in recent months was generated by these criminal cells.
The main crimes you have committed in these gangs are: drug trafficking, extortion and theft on public transit. Their criminal acts do not make them large-scale, however, the degree of violence with which they execute them is very high.
"A very specific characteristic of this type of group is that they are young, very young, some even minors, aged between 16 and 23. They are people who have left school, fallen into dependency, have been Abandoned and, For this reason, they are very violent, very daring, armed, often use other types of means such as a knife, a stick, etc. They are violent in general, "explained Orta .
In addition to the crimes they commit, the violence is compounded by internal lawsuitsmembers of the same cells who, through alcohol or pbadionate situations, react very violently.
So much violence, that even in some areas have decided to fight on the spot with the big drug cartels that operate there"Cartels that have much more power and, of course, generate clashes that result in killings, injuries and riots," he said in charge of security in the Mexican capital.
The growth of these gangs occurs after the previous governments abandoned these territories in terms of public safetyaccording to the authorities.
The current administration, headed by Claudia Sheinbaum, strategy, the first step is prevention, which concerns social development, improvement of urban services, education and health.
In terms of security, intelligence and operational tasks are carried out, ie: Gang members are the subject of an investigation "who are they, what are they doing, how are they doing, what time are they leaving, with whom they meet".
In addition, the authorities indicated that "chelerias" (beer distributors) were in the process of being closed as they considered these businesses to be attractive to criminal groups.
Orta explained that in the "chelerías", They gather from 20 to 30 people and "nobody wants to pbad, sometimes even the police".
"We do activities with the prosecutor's office where people who already have follow-up processes through search files are looking for them, we have judicial orders for search and apprehension and we will apprehend those who already have antecedents ", explained Orta.
