The Language Congress will leave Córdoba with two buildings recovered

Between this Wednesday 27 and Saturday 30 the VIIIth International Congress of the Spanish Language (CILE) will bring historical visits to Córdoba. From the president of the nation to the Spanish royalty, pbading the Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa and even the Iberian singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina.

That is why, in the months leading up to the opening ceremony, the city redoubled its efforts to have two of its most iconic buildings ready: the traditional Libertador General San Martín Theater, main venue of the event and the new Juan Bautista Bustos convention center, built on the foundations of the former green pavilion of the fair complex.

Next month, the Teatro del Libertador General San Martin will complete 128 years. In the days of a new anniversary, the building of Avenue Vélez Sarsfield 365 will be the headquarters of one of the most important events in the history of the city of Córdoba, after a restoration that lasted 14 months uninterrupted work by different professionals.

According to official sources, during the work, the specialists endeavored to respect each of the historical and heritage details with which the theater was designed by the Italian architect Francesco Tamburini. The restoration work included the special treatment of seats, the walls, the ceilings and up to the curtain, among other things.

"This one curtain Fantasy used for the inauguration of the Liberator in 1891, was kept all that time in a theater warehouse and now seems restored on our stage. The fabric has been meticulously worked with the same techniques as those used over a century ago, at one and the same time to paint as in their textiles", the governor of Córdoba had shared, Juan Schiaretti, through their social networks.

In addition, those who worked on the project put special emphasis on cupola of the building, which has various materials in its structure: stamped plaques, hand – painted wall sconces, silver leaves, and hundreds of details that deserve careful observation, as they have indicated.

During what was the restoration process, which lasted more than a year, they were also carried out sound measurements to ensure that musical waves and vibrations are as faithful as at the time of the inauguration of the impressive theater equipped with the 1077 people.

The new convention center Juan Bautista Bustos

With architecture away from the operatic theater of Velez Sarsfield Avenue, the new Juan Bautista Bustos Convention Center, located in the fair complex of Cordoba, is the product of the renovations and extensions that were made to the former green building pavilion, built during the year. 1987 during the military government.

It is located in the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium area, to the west of the city and, according to the logistics manager, has movable panels that convert space into independent pieces. In this way, it is possible to organize up to four simultaneous conferences and a total of about 4000 people.

It is here that, although President Mauricio Macri is taking part, or King and Queen of Spain Felipe VI and Letizia Ortiz, the grand banquet will take place after the opening ceremony of the VIIIth Language Congress.

The project was the most important intervention in the complex since its inauguration in 1978, for the World Cup that took place in the country that year. The central nave has five thousand square meters, to which traffic areas, toilets and additional services have been incorporated.

The ground floor has approximately 1500 square meters, on the first floor are the meeting rooms with a capacity of 400 people, in addition to press offices and VIP areas, as well as audio speakers and for simultaneous translations.
