Detainee Hits Lawyer In Florida Court Room

An attorney had to be hospitalized Wednesday after a prisoner punched him in the head during a hearing in a courtroom. Fort Lauderdale (north of Miami), an attack that was recorded by a security camera.

In the images revealed by the media, the lawyer is seen Julie Chase examine notes next to a dam at a bail hearing in a Broward County hearing room.

Suddenly, among the rows of seats where many prisoners wait, an inmate arrives who approaches the lawyer and gives him a powerful punch on the left temple which overthrows the woman.

The attacker, identified as William Green, 27, was immediately reduced by agents police present in the courtroom and criminal charges have already been filed.

The reasons that led Green to hit the lawyer are unknown. She was already out of the hospital.

"It was very unfortunate and our heart is with Chase, who tries every day to represent people in this difficult environment", public defender Gordon Weeks told Channel 7 News Miami.
