Pope's warning about food: "This is not a private property"

Telam –Pope Francisco asked today to think of the many "hungry children" in the world and warned that "The food is not a private property", during the general audience held in the Plaza de San Pedro.

"We think of children in war-torn countries: starving children from Yemen, hungry children from Syria, starving children from many countries without bread, in southern Sudan." We weigh these children and when we think of them together, we say the prayer aloud: "Father, give us today the bread of every day," he said.

"How many mothers and fathers, even today, sleep with the torment of not having enough bread tomorrow for their children." We imagine that this prayer is recited not in the safety of a comfortable apartment, but in the precariousness of a room in which we adapt, where there is not enough housing to live, "he said.

Francisco pointed out that "food is not a property, that we enter well in the head, but a providence to share with the grace of God".
