The United States threatens to impose new tariffs on European products for public aid to Airbus

Washington has threatened Monday to impose tariff increases on European products, among them the planes Airbus, in retaliation for the public aid received by the airline of the EU, says a statement from US Trade Representative (USTR).

The USTR estimates that European subsidies to Airbus "penalize" the US to the tune of about $ 11,000 million a year, adds the statement and confirms the desire of the sales representative "to act" in a 14 years ago and was brought before the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"The WTO has repeatedly concluded that the European Union's aid has caused damage to the United States", the representative wrote Robert Lighthizerwhich has published a preliminary list of European products which may be subject to additional customs duties.

The total amount of retaliation "must be decided by the WTO" this summer, the USTR, which was said to be ready for the "act as soon as the WTO has made its decision"but also to raise its retaliatory measures if the European Union ceases the subsidies in question.

The list, consisting of 14 pages, contains among others: aerospace products, including Airbus, the statement said.
