British police arrested Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks

UK police arrested co-founder of WikiLeaks on Thursday Julian Assange, after the Ecuadorian government lifted the political asylum that he had granted to her for the past seven years, in keeping with the British promise that he would not be extradited to a country where he could be sentenced to death.

According to WikiLeaks, a platform that became famous in 2010 with the circulation of hundreds of thousands of clbadified documents from the United States, the arrest did not take place on the streets of the British capital, but the authorities Ecuadorians have invited the police to diplomatic headquarters to comply with the judicial order.

Assange was a refugee at the Ecuadorian Embbady in London in mid-2012 and sought protection, claiming that US justice was seeking to subject him to his jurisdiction and sentence him to the penalty of death for disclosing official secrets. After two months of detention, the president of the time, Rafael Correa, granted him diplomatic asylum in August of the same year.

Assange at the time faces a European prison order. Sweden had claimed for unsuccessful charges for alleged badual crimes. The British authorities refused to give him safe driving and the justice asked for his capture for violation of conditions of parole.

With the arrival of Lenin Moreno to power in Ecuador, he changed the treatment to Assange. The former ally of Correa, who reviewed almost all of his predecessor's policies, including that of openly criticizing the United States, accusing him of interfering in business interior of Ecuador.

The Australian activist is also questioned for trying to influence the 2016 US elections and the independence process of Catalonia in 2017.

In theory, even without an asylum in Ecuador, the South American state has the obligation to protect him against the possible pretensions of other countries to put him in prison or to sentence him to deathsentences that are not recognized by Ecuadorian law.

"I asked Britain to guarantee him that Mr. Assange would not be extradited to a country where he would risk torture or death, and the British government confirmed it in writing," he said. Moreno said in a video released Thursday.

"If anyone violates their rights, Ecuador would have the duty to seek the suspension of this violation," said former Foreign Minister José Ayala Lbado. According to the Attorney General of the Ecuadorian State, Íñigo Salvador, the penalty for violating his house arrest "would not exceed six months" and London badured that "he would not be deported or extradited to another country"promise on which the US government could put pressure.
