Google celebrates the centenary of the Bauhaus School with an interactive doodle

Today, Google pays tribute to the School of Art, Design and Architecture Bauhaus, born a century ago in Weimar (Germany). The father of this initiative was the architect Walter Gropius who sought to capture the concept of beauty and functionality in his works.

Gropius was also the first director of the school between 1919 and 1928. It was then directed by Hannes Meyer, between 1928 and 1930, and since that date and until 1933 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. That year, it was closed by the Nazi party.

On the interactive cover of the doodle, you can see the distinctive geometric shapes of the movement and by clicking on the "Play" button in the center you can access its most characteristic motifs such as the Gropius building of the city of Dessau, C ' is the school that comes from Weimar or the famous Wbadily Chair.

The movement acquired a particular importance among young artists with socialist and communist ideas. However, Gropius has always sought to stay away from a political ideology. The school and its followers have been persecuted and criticized by the most conservative sectors. Finally, shortly after the First World War, Nazism closed it.

Anyway, you can still see today his heritage in the world, in furniture and other industrial designs. In addition, the architectural style is visible in the United States, Europe and especially Israel: in Tel Aviv, 4,000 buildings follow this aesthetic line.

This year, the Bauhaus 2019 Association will organize several events in Germany and around the world to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of this iconic school of design and architecture.
