With record maize production estimated at 18.2 million tonnes, Córdoba will be among the top 10 largest provinces-states for individual grain production this year.
This is clear from a report prepared by the Córdoba Grain Exchange. In this campaign, whose cereal harvest is already under way, 49.7 million tonnes will be produced at the country level. Córdoba will represent 38% of the national production.
According to the entity, this year Córdoba will climb five stages in the ranking of the main grain-producing provinces and will occupy the eighth position. Strictly speaking, its production represents 6.2 million tonnes more than the previous agricultural cycle.
Globally, the podium is run by the US state of Iowa with an individual harvest of 63.7 million tonnes. Then follow Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota, all from the United States.
Outside the United States, in fifth place, the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso appears with 29.3 million tons. Indiana and South Dakota occupy sixth and seventh places, then Cordoba with 18.2 million tons.
Then, the entity calculated the participation in domestic production, that is, the importance by province and state in the total.
"Cordoba ranks first among the states contributing the most to domestic production, accounting for 38% of Argentine production in the 2018/19 campaign, followed by the state of Mato Grosso in Brazil and the second and third. province of Buenos Aires with a share of 32% and 27% respectively, which translates into a concentration of 65% of Argentine maize production in only two provinces, this figure being reached by Brazil which cumulates the production of the four important (69%) and the top six for the United States (67%) ".
