Video: The statue of the Virgin Mary remained intact after the fire of Notre Dame | Chronic

The day after the fire that destroyed part of Notre Dame Cathedral and damaged many of its remains and much of its architecture, a video of the building's interior travels the world to the looking for what many might believe "It would be a miracle".

The images reveal, among the elements that resisted the flames, a statue of the intact Virgin Mary. This news has caused trouble and happiness among Catholic believers who lamented Monday the great loss.

Philippe Marsset, vicar general of Notre Dame, was one of the first to enter the historic building and record the total destruction on a video.

In the pictures, it is possible that he first shows the huge hole that remains in the ceiling of the church, but then points to the virgin and intact image of the Virgin.

"It was as if I had bombed it"said Marsset about what remains of the church he went to. Priest 31 years ago.

However, he said something surprised him when he came in: "Everything was dark, but at the bottom the big cross of the altar was still standing, illuminated by the flames".

"It was awesome"describes this vicar who spent the whole night with his beloved church.

And he adds: "On the right of this cross, there is a statue of Mary (…) She is standing, there is the cross and Notre-Dame, there, in the heart of Notre Dame".

They also managed to save most of the temple's stained glbad windows. "We are all surprised, it's more than miraculous, it's heroic"says Marsset, referring to the work of the fire department.
