Pope Francis attended the Via Crucis Friday at the Colosseum, accompanied by the militant text of an 80-year-old religious dedicated to modern slaves, including prostitutes, on Italian roads.

The Via Crucis brings to life in the Christian tradition Jesus' ordeal, from his death sentence to his crucifixion, to his death and burial, reported the AFP news agency.

This year, the pope has chosen for the "meditations" on Good Friday the religious Eugenia Bonetti, an Italian who has long been a missionary in Africa and who has been devoting for 20 years in Italy to help the victims of slavery.

Bonetti put forward the "new Crucified from History". In the first place, bad slaves "used" but "condemned by a society that refuses to see this type of exploitation".

His raw and direct text was read while he was carrying a long gray cross at the bottom of the Coliseum in Rome, and then outside of this iconic place of persecution against Christians under the Roman Empire.

The nun listed the fates of young women, like that of a "minor, found a night in Rome, that men aboard luxury cars have exploded in their turn and could yet be the age of their daughters". Or that of three Africans "mutilated" by teenagers with incendiary objects.

Bonetti called to "engage" against "the horrific migrant accommodation centers in Libya" and criticized Italy by referring to "rejected ships as a haven of peace, long bureaucratic negotiations" on the final destinations ".

Around the amphitheater, about 20,000 faithful followed the silent ceremony in silence.

The pope presided over the ceremony.

In a short final prayer, Francis asked to see "all the crosses of the world", those of hungry or abandoned people, but also "migrants who find doors closed by fear and shielded hearts of calculations. that of the "little wounded in their innocence".

He also spoke of a society in full secularization, with religious feeling "rejected, offended, humiliated" and believers "marginalized and rejected even by their relatives".
