Under the mandate to jointly launch a deep reform of Mercosur and strengthen bilateral relations, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will visit Argentina on June 6 to meet Mauricio Macri at Casa Rosada.
This has been confirmed at Infobae Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the official statement issued by Itamaraty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, which emphasized that "This visit reflects the priority given by Brazil to relations with Argentina".
The meeting will take place after Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo's trip to Buenos Aires on 9 and 10 April. Argentine Vice President Gabriela Michetti arrived in Brasilia on April 12th.
Brazilian diplomacy stressed in its official message that "the meeting between the two leaders represents an opportunity to follow up on the main issues discussed during the visit of President Mauricio Macri to Brasilia on January 16th".
Thus, it has also been suggested that this meeting will allow both Presidents to "clearly outline the new directions of the relationship and give the necessary political impetus to the priority issues of the bilateral agenda".
They added: "It will also be an opportunity for leaders to discuss issues of common interest to the agenda of the international community and the current scenario of regional integration."
In this perspective, in the Chancery, they recalled Infobae Macri co-ordinated with Bolsonaro the need to vigorously reform Mercosur with a view to reducing additional block duties. That is to say the imported products that will be chosen to make the markets more competitive.
At the same time, Macri will raise at the next meeting of Mercosur heads of state in July in Santa Fe, which will reformulate the structures of the bloc and reduce spending.
Bilaterally, the idea is that Bolsonaro and Macri conclude agreements on car agreements, establish new rules of the game to boost trade and a broad agenda also covers security issues to control borders and the waterway in the fight against drug trafficking and smuggling.
In addition, Macri and his Brazilian counterpart will seek to launch a new message of pressure on Venezuela so that the Nicolás Maduro regime can restore democracy.
