At least one person died and three others were injured today when a man entered a synagogue in Poway, near San Diego, Californiawhere the faithful were preparing to celebrate the Pbadover. The aggressor was arrested by security forces.
The shooting had originally caused four injuries, but the mayor of Poway, Steve Vaus, confirmed that one of them was dead.
The attack was condemned by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who warned that he did not have too much information, but that everything was supposed to be a "hate crime".
"Hate does not belong in any community … except Poway, we will stick together and we will go through this tragedy as the family we have always been and we will always be. #PayayStrong" Twitter.
The mayor also confirmed that one man had been arrested and that the three wounded had been taken to the Palomar hospital near the scene.
According to Vais, the act could have constituted a hate-motivated crime "because of statements made at the entry of the shooter into the synagogue," reported the EFE news agency.
"A man was arrested to interrogate him about the shooting in the Poway synagogue," Sheriff Bill Gore said in a message posted on his Twitter account.
The events took place at 11:30 local time (15:30 Argentina time), half an hour after the start of a ceremony for Pbadover.
Poway is a small town of 50,000 people located 30 kilometers north of San Diego (Southern California), on the border with Mexico. The synagogue is located at 16000 block of Chabad Way, Poway.
The attack took place six months after the murder of an armed man in a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as part of the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in US history.
After the local closed at 2:30 pm, US President Donald Trump addressed the media in the White House Garden to express their "deep solidarity with those affected."
"We are investigating what appears to be a hate crime," Trump said before leaving for Wisconsin to attend a political meeting.
