Florida has passed a law for teachers to go armed in schools

The Florida Congress, in the United States, fortested a controversial bill Wednesday that allows teachers who wish to go armed in schools, a measure promoted following the death of 14 students and 3 teachers during a shootout at Parkland High School in 2018.

With the approval on Wednesday at the lower house of the state bill, which already had the "green light" of the Senate, it only remains to send the bill to the governor, Republican Ron DeSantis, for it to be pbaded as law, which is taken for granted.

The idea came after the shootings killing 17 dead and 15 wounded at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland on February 14, 2018.

Governor DeSantis presented last February a security plan based on recommendations of a committee formed after the shooting at Parkland High School and this included the presence of armed guards, which will be extended to teachers when the project becomes law.

The badbadination of Parkland was at the origin of a law promulgated in 2018 that raised the minimum age to acquire a weapon from 18 to 21 years old and imposed a waiting period of three days for most long-range weapon purchases.
