The Spanish government warned that it would "limit" Leopoldo López's political activities to the embassy

The acting Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said the government "limit"the political activities of the Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, which is located in the residence of the Spanish Ambbadador to Venezuela.

"Spain will not allow its embbady to become a center of political activismBorrell told reporters in Lebanon where he is on an official visit.

Mr. Borrell recalled that Lopez had met the press Thursday at the embbady and stressed that "from now on it will be regulated"

The Minister pointed out that according to international law, the figure ofinvited or welcomed"at the embbady"naturally"This implies a limitation of his political activity.

"We are confident that under these conditions, Venezuela will naturally respect the immunity of the territory of the embbady of Spain," he added.

Borrell repeated that Spain "will not deliver"in Lopez to the Venezuelan authorities, despite the fact that the Venezuelan Supreme Court issued a arrest warrant Thursday.

He also recalled that Lopez is in the diplomatic legation as "guest"and can not ask for political asylum because Spanish law allows it only from Spanish territory.

The minister also revealed that he had talked about the situation of López with the regime of Nicolás Maduro, with whom he maintains a "courteous relationship", despite Spain has recognized as acting president the opposition Juan Guaidó.

The Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice released Thursday a arrest warrant against López, who has served 14 years in prison since 2014, but since mid-2017, he was under house arrest in Caracas.
