Four soldiers, including a general, and two policemen were killed today in an ambush in the state of Aragua, in north-central Venezuela, local press reported.

A police report published in the online version of El Universal indicates that the dead soldiers are Brigadier General, Jackson Silva Zapata, director of the Troops Training School.

Professionals of the Venezuelan military aviation; Sergeant Robert Leon Castellano, Second Sergeant Angel Brito and First Corporal Robinson Vizcaya Sojo.

The fallen policemen were identified as Bruno Benavides and Jesús Arraiz.

Early reports of the case indicate that these soldiers and two policemen were ambushed as they had been summoned after a "terrorist attack" in the area.

"On their return, they were intercepted by heavily armed individuals who have not yet been identified, who, without using words and taking advantage of relief in the area, opened fire on the commission", according to the report.
