The murder of a young woman without "witnesses or suspects" is solved 46 years later – 07/05/2019

The murder of a 19-year-old girl in the United States is finally resolved after decades of uncertainty in which researchers they could not find a single convincing suspect, according to Indiana police Monday at a press conference.

Pamela Milam was last seen on September 15, 1972 in the city of Terre Haute, after leaving an evening on the campus of Indiana University. In 2017, the police chief learned about the existence of the DNA phenotype, a new technique this made it possible to predict the appearance of a suspect when badyzing a sample of genetic material. The following year he started working with Parabon NanoLabs, a specialized company went through the DNA profile found on the crime scene with a public genealogy database.

After building the family tree of a potential killer, the search was reduced from 106 people to one individual: Jeffrey Hand.

Unfortunately, it was impossible to compare the results with samples of Hand himself because he was killed during a shootout with members of law enforcement in 1978 after attempting to kidnap a woman in the Indianapolis area. However, yes it was possible to find his wife and children, whose genetic material was obtained for a "reverse paternity" test. The badysis showed a 99.9% probability that the DNA found at the scene of the crime belongs to Hand.

Jeffrey Hand was a 23-year-old delivery boy who lived in another city when he committed the murder and he would have been involved in other crimes. According to Keen, it is possible that he "intercepted" Pamela in the parking lot after choosing Random.
