The former President of Brazil Michel Temer, which a court of second instance ordered to return to prison in a corruption case, was presented this Thursday at the headquarters of the federal police of the city of Sao Paulo to be made available to justice.

The former president (2016-2018), 78, was in prison four days after being arrested on March 21 by order of a judge in Rio de Janeiro. He was later released by a habeas corpus, butHe will have to return to prison for a decision taken on Wednesday by the regional court of the second region (TRF-2).

The former head of state went to the police soon after a judge told him to do so until the end of the afternoon this Thursday and having promised the day before that he would submit himself voluntarily to justice.

The fear, on January 1, of entrusting the presidential band to the far right, Jair Bolsonaro, arrested in March after the prosecution accused it of receiving bribes from various companies and being the principal leader of a criminal organization that has diverted nearly $ 500 million of public resources for 40 years.

The case, one of the ten that the former president faces and one of the six in which he was already pursued, is related to Lava Jato, the largest anti-corruption operation in Brazilian history that dismantled a network that diverted resources from the national oil company Petrobras.

Temer has become the second former president of Brazil to be imprisoned by Lava Jato since Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) served in prison since last April a conviction for corruption and money laundering.

The numerous lawsuits against Temer, paralyzed by Congress while he was at the head of the state, were reopened this year after the political leader had lost his privileged jurisdiction.

Defenders of the former head of state, harbaded a request for detention in a special prison in Sao Paulo and not to be sent back to Rio de Janeiro, where his arrest was ordered and he was imprisoned in March in a cell adapted from the seat of the federal police.

The court that revoked the habeas corpus in favor of the former president also decided to re-enter the prison of the police reserve colonel Joao Baptista Lima Filho, a personal friend of the former president and designated as the leading representative of the allegedly corrupt conspiracy by fear, according to the Office of the Prosecutor.
