A Venezuelan court on Friday ordered the preventive detention of the first deputy speaker of parliament, Edgar Zambranowho will be judged by the ordinary courts for "Treason to the fatherland" and makes the detention center the police headquarters of the country's main military fort.

In a statement issued by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), it is stated that an ordinary court ordered the preventive detention of Zambrano "for the flagrant commission of the crimes of treason, conspiracy, civil rebellion, usurpation of functions, public instigation to disobedience laws and persistent hatred".

A measure of detention has also been ordered for citizens Rosario Pedro, Abrahan Rodríguez, Martín Hernández and Martín Peña, who accompanied Zambrano Wednesday, during his arrest.

Zambrano, who is accused along with nine other deputies of having participated in the failed military uprising led by the Speaker of Parliament, Juan Guaidó, against the government of Nicolás Maduro, was arrested while he was near his Democratic Action Party (AD).

After refusing to get off of his vehicle, he was transferred to a tow truck escorted by members of the Bolivian Intelligence Service (Sebin) to Helicoide, one of the headquarters of this body in Caracas, according to L & # 39; EFE news agency. The detainee's parents and supporters had indicated that they still did not know where he was.

The text of the TSJ also states that the first vice-speaker of the Parliament will be tried by ordinary courts "because it's the flagrant commission of common crimes " and that it will be held in "the headquarters of the military police" of the main military fort of the country, Fuerte Tiuna, located in Caracas.

Venezuela has experienced maximum political tension since last January, when Maduro swore a new six-year term that is not recognized by the opposition and is part of the international community. In response, Guaidó was proclaimed interim president of the country, after which he was recognized as such by more than 50 countries, led by the United States.
