Floods and chaos in Asunción

The flooded streets, the trailed vehicles, the collapsed traffic are the summary of what the storm left Friday in the capital. In different parts of Asunción and the metropolitan area, the large amount of water that has fallen has caused destruction and panic.

Heavy rain recorded this afternoon on Asunción caused the collapse of the city. The drains were not enough and overflowed, as well as the streams.

O 'Higgins, near the Telefuturo television channel, was one of the flooded streets and dozens of vehicles were dragged by the raudal that had formed there. The occupants of these cars had to abandon them because they were in danger instead.

Another complicated point occurred at the intersection of Avenue Choferes del Chaco and Carmen Soler, at the corner of Radio Ñandutí, where several shots were also fired as a result of the normally formed violent rage with every heavy rain.

In videos that roam social networks, you can see people trying desperately to secure the vehicles with ropes so that they are not taken by the correntada. A few minutes earlier, several occupants of these shots managed to escape the cabin, also avoiding being dragged.

In neighborhoods and in the center

But it is not only in neighborhoods that cases have alarmed. Also in the center of Asunción, at the intersection of Humaitá and Ayolas streets, where two declining hills coincide.

Here too, as can be seen in the pictures, several small cars were dragged by the raudale. At the intersection of Avenida Fernando de la Mora and Bartolomé de las Casas, the large amount of water accumulated formed a mini stream that prevented the normal flow of traffic.

In another place, still on this same avenue, at the height of La Victoria, on the outskirts of Senad, a lagoon also formed due to the amount of water accumulated in this area.
