The government formalized Friday the convocation to the August 11 primary elections (PASO) and national elections, on October 27, to renew the positions of president, 130 deputies and 24 senators and suspended the election of 43 Mercosur members.
By Decree 343, published in the Official Journal, the executive branch convened the national elections, set November 24 as the date of a presidential election and suspended the election of the 43 parliamentarians of Mercosur.
In addition, in the decree signed by the president Mauricio MacriIt has been formalized that, as usual, the Ministry of the Interior, through the National Electoral Directorate, will be responsible for the organization and conduct of the elections.
This year, in addition to elections to choose who will hold the presidency between 2019 and 2023, 21 provinces will elect a new governor and the federal capital, his head of government.
The only provincial leaders not to complete their administration in 2019 are Gustavo Valdés (UCR) of Corrientes and Gerardo Zamora (Civic Front for Santiago) of Santiago del Estero.
On the rest, a total of 17 jurisdictions have set their own voting date – separate from the October national elections – and it remains to formalize their electoral calendar, Catamarca, Santa Cruz, Chaco and La Rioja.
The city and province of Buenos Aires have been included in the list of districts that will hold local polls on October 27, along with nationals and after pbading the August PASS.
The city renews 30 seats in the Buenos Aires legislature and 7 members of the 15 municipal councils, while the province of Buenos Aires has 23 provincial senator posts; 46 deputies; 135 municipal mayors; 1,097 permanent counselors and 401 school counselors.

This year, the electoral calendar was inaugurated with the elections of March 10 in Neuquén, in which the governor Omar Gutiérrez, of the Neuquino People's Movement (MPN), was re-elected.

June will be the month with the highest number of provincial elections: the second will be the turn of Misiones and San Juan; the 9 will define the governors Tucumán, Chubut, Entre Ríos and Jujuy; and the 16th, it will be Santa Fe, San Luis, Formosa and Tierra del Fuego.
Meanwhile, Mendoza will decide who will succeed the governor Alfredo Cornejo only on September 29, less than a month before the national elections, Salta will do so on November 10.
