The life of Míriam Rodríguez Martínez completely changed in 2012 when her girl Karen was kidnapped without anyone asking for a reward for her release. After two years of research, the girl's body was found in a clandestine grave and the mother collaborated to have the perpetrators arrested. Faced with this, a group of badbadins was responsible for putting an end to his life. From that moment he began to receive threats, but he did not flinch and decided to continue to search for other missing persons. As intimidation continued, she decided to close the business in which she worked and devote herself exclusively to the NGO. Distrustful of the security the state could give her, she began to march armed, to defend herself in case of attack. "They will kill me," he told a family member.
Until the tragic day has arrived. On May 10, 2017 – ironically, on the occasion of Mother's Day in Mexico City – she was returning from an event at her home, when she noticed that a white van was following her. When he thought that he had lost track and that he wanted to enter his home, he received a series of shots that ended his life. His death has sparked protests from several groups seeking missing persons and has asked the state to deliver justice. A few months later, the murderers – who remained unpunished – crossed the border with the police and were killed. All had criminal records related to homicides, disappearances and abductions.
