At a meeting of Mercosur, it was proposed to eliminate roaming between the countries of the region.

The Mercosur Communication Commission met this week in Buenos Aires and highlighted the badyzed proposals. the elimination of roaming charges for mobile communications between the member countries of the organization.

The proposal was evaluated at a working meeting of subgroup 1 of the Mercosur Communication Commission. This was confirmed by the president of the National Agency of Communication (Enacom), Silvana Giudici.

"Working together to phase out roaming collection in member countries of the organization will provide a better and cheaper service to users", said the official at the closing of the regional meeting that took place for two days at San Martin Palace.

Argentina holds the presidency for six months pro tempore Mercosur, that's why Enacom is the agency responsible for coordinating Meetings of the communication area.

Some of the issues that were discussed, in addition to advancing an agreement
about homelessness, was the implementation of a Mercosur digital agenda;
adapt the rules for a postal market as a driver of trade; and agree on the different service coordination manuals in the border areas.

The regulatory authorities of Argentina and Chile began to meet in October 2017 to implement the elimination of roaming, following the signing of a bilateral trade agreement to strengthen the integration of telecommunications in both countries. The agreement implies that Argentine tourists traveling to Chile and Chilean tourists visiting Argentina will be able to use all the functions of their mobile phone (SMS, data, voice) at the same price as in their country..

Last March, Argentina also participated in the VII Assembly of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL), where it badumed the chairmanship of the Steering Committee until 2022. At that meeting, it was elimination of roaming charges in several countries of the region. As part of these policies, Brazil and Colombia had already eliminated these additional surcharges in 2013.
