The International Museum Day will be held on May 18 in more than 150 countries and Argentina joins the initiative with special and free activities next Saturday, announced the Ministry of Culture of the Nation.
This celebration is organized by the International Council of Museums ICOM, which, as in all editions, proposes a different theme.
In 2019, it will be "Museums as cultural centers: the future of tradition", and proposes to focus on the new role played by museums as 39 active agents in their communities.
Since 1977, this day has been celebrated with the active participation of about 37,000 museums and more than 158 countries. This World Day aims to draw attention to the importance of museums for cultural exchange and enrichment.
In Argentina, the National Museum of History (Defensa 1600, Buenos Aires) joins this day with a special visit of the reserve of the institution, a unique opportunity to become acquainted with the great heritage of the museum that is not exposed.
