Taiwan legalized gay marriage

Taiwan's parliament legalized same-bad marriage on Friday, an unprecedented event in Asiaafter the government survived a last minute attempt by the Conservatives to approve a softened version.

Island MPs comfortably approved the law allowing same-bad couples to form "permanent exclusive unions" and a clause allowing them to: will allow government agencies to apply for "registration of marriage".

This endorsement, which places Taiwan at the forefront of the growing gay rights movement in Asia, is an important victory for Taiwan's LGBT community, which has fought for years to obtain rights similar to those of heterobadual couples.

In May 2017, the Constitutional Court of the island issued a historic opinion ruling that depriving persons of the same bad of the right to marry to be unconstitutional.

He then gave the government until May 24, 2019 to amend the law warning him that if he did nothing, gay marriage would become legal.

Over the past few months, the Conservative opposition has mobilized against this bill and introduced alternative bills calling for limited same-bad unions.
