But Emma was sacrificed, cremated, placed in an urn and given to the representative of the deceased woman for her final burial.

In the UK, healthy animals can be slaughtered, but only after a consultation process with a veterinarian and if there is no better option for the animal. "Almost all veterinarians have been invited to practice euthanasia on healthy animals," said a spokesman for the British Veterinary Association.
