A man immolated by fire in front of the White House and died from his wounds

A man who he caught fire Wednesday in the vicinity of the White House, and died due to the severity of his injuries.

Police identified the deceased as Arnav Gupta from Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington. The 33-year-old man set himself alight at 12:20 pm on the Ellipse esplanade, between the presidential hotel and the George Washington Monument, near the intersection of 15th Street and Constitution Avenue.

"Secret Service agents reacted in a few seconds, put out the fire and began administering first aid," he told the news agency EFE a spokesman for the US agency, Jeffrey Adams.

After the event, the person was taken to a local hospital for treatment and died at the health center. The reasons that led him to commit such an act are still the subject of an investigation.

Several incidents in recent years involving people who have tried to cross the barrier protecting the White House have resulted in a gradual increase in security in the perimeter of the presidential residence.

April 12th another man tried to catch fire in front of the White House, but secret service agents prevented him from doing so.

In February of last year, a woman crashed into her car against one of the security fences protecting the building, forcing the temporary closure of the complex housing the presidential residence.

Just a month later, a man lost his life after shoot yourself in front of the White House for unknown reasons.
