Chancellor inspects Chernobyl nuclear power plant – Telam

During his official visit to Ukraine, French Chancellor Jean-Yves Le Drian inspected the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the end of the construction of the sarcophagus created to cover the reactor that exploded in 1986 and caused the worst nuclear disaster of history, reported Sunday by the French Embbady in Kiev.

The sarcophagus was installed in 2016 and is considered the largest mobile structure ever built, with a reliability of a century, explained Novarka, quoted by the EFE news agency. The structure is arched and measures 110 meters high, 150 wide, 256 long and weighs over 30,000 tons. Its function is to replace the reinforced concrete structure, installed after the accident, to stop the radiation output of the exploded reactor.

Le Drian's visit, protected by a helmet, a mask and a special jacket, was a gesture of support from the new Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelenski, who was trying to show that the nuclear problem was already solved in a definitive way.
