Chilean rescuers were able to draw today in the depths of one of the three Bolivian miners imprisoned 70 meters underground after a landslide in a Tocopilla mine. According to information provided by the National Geological and Mining Service (Sernageomin), another worker died while still looking for the third.
Chile's Minister of Mines, Baldo Prokuriça, was in charge of confirming the rescue of Leonardo Condori "after 37 hours of intense work". The official confirmed that "we will not give up" until we find the missing worker, and lamented the death of the other minor. Condori is under observation in a hospital.
The accident occurred Thursday evening at dusk due to "the collapse of materials in the San José de Tocopilla mine," Sernageomin said on Twitter.
The Directory 8 Mine, Punto San José, is located in the city of Tocopilla, in the Antofagasta region. 700 kilometers away is the San José mine, where 33 miners were trapped 600 meters deep for 70 days and were rescued successfully.
