California on the lookout for another magnitude 7.1 earthquake

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake again rocked the southern California region of the western United States. This is the largest tremor recorded for 20 years in the region.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake on Friday at 20:19 local time (3:19 GMT), at a depth of 0.9 km, and located the epicenter near Ridgecrest, about 200 kilometers northeast of the city of Los Angeles.

This earthquake was recorded just one day after magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale and at a depth of 11 kilometers, which touched the same area, in the Searles Valley.

It was an earthquake of the same magnitude as that of 7.1 in 1999, recorded as the most intense of the last two decades.

The shock was felt intensely in Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as in the Mexican city of Tijuana, on the border with the United States.

California Governor Gavin Newsom offered his "sincere support" to all those affected and called for a presidential emergency and federal badistance.

What are the damages?

Officials said the scale of the damage and the number of people wounded in the state were not yet known.

The head of the Kern County Fire Department, David Witt, said that about 1,800 people did not have electricity after the earthquake, but added that "there is no Only minor injuries … such as cuts and bruises ".
