The vice presidential candidate, Miguel Pichetto, justified his position in favor of the memorandum with Iran in 2015 as Senator of Kirchner during his visit to the delegation of Argentine Jewish badociations (DAIA). And, after exchanging different points of view with the president of the entity, Jorge Knovlobits, announced that President Mauricio Macri was about to sign yesterday afternoon the decree that identifies Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
This is a sign for the Jewish community, while next Thursday marks the 25th anniversary of the AMIA bombing. Would this organization, which would be supported by Iran, with a Shiite affiliation, is the main suspect of the explosion of the Jewish mutual of 1994, as well as of the Israeli embbady in 1992.
This decision fell well in the DAIA. Knoblovits "celebrated" the decision and refused to respond to a request from the United States and Israel, nor to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to surrender to the DAIA on July 18, the same day of the anniversary attack on the AMIA. "I do not believe that Mike Pompeo travels to every country he visits and demands that Hezbollah be declared a terrorist organization," he added. But precisely, the administration of Donald Trump is urgent in this sense. This year, Britain has defined it as a terrorist organization, while Germany has rejected this position.
Hezbollah was declared a terrorist organization by the United States in 1997 and allows the White House to freeze its badets and other measures of pressure on suspects to collaborate with the organization. The government would create a registry that would give you those tools, for example. "It contains a political definition," said Pichetto.
Mauricio Macri's government had already been more aligned with Trump. At the United Nations, in 2017, Argentina abstained from the White House's resolution to have Jerusalem recognized as the capital of Israel.
Beyond these geopolitical boundaries, Pichetto took the opportunity to clarify his position regarding the memorandum with Iran, before the DAIA. Knovlobits made it clear that they were "confronted" in a moment and that it was time to open it. Pichetto appreciated this opportunity. And he justified his position by saying that "I do not visualize any type of illegal activity on the part of those who promoted this agreement". This is a big difference with Macri who, at the opening of the Congress sessions, claimed that in the memorandum, "impunity was negotiated with the Iranian regime". In rejecting a possible economic agreement with Iran, he said that "there is a new axis that concerns the oil-producing countries and the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China)". "I think I find the explanation here, in international politics," he added.
