Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, ordered to investigate the outage that affected more than 70,000 users Saturday night for four hours, and said it was "unacceptable" that these cuts occur .
"Although the situation has fortunately been under control, the fact that this has happened is unacceptable," Cuomo said in a statement.
The official also asked the Public Service Commission "to conduct an investigation to determine the causes" of the event and said that "all parties involved would be held responsible for ensuring that this does not happen again more".
It is thought that the power outage was caused by problems in one of West Manhattan's substations, extended to other electrical installations in the city.
Cuomo explained that the authorities had ordered the design of a power grid that would specifically prevent the failure of one substation affecting others because "this is not the first time that there are problems with a substation, "reported the EFE news agency.
The power outage lasted for about four hours and left 72,000 guests without light, affecting the West End of Manhattan and iconic places such as Times Square, which caused scenes of concern among citizens as the subway lines and the theaters were paralyzed.
The power outage, which occurred after New York, in addition to affecting the normal operation of transportation, left many citizens stranded in elevators and made the traffic lights shut down.
