The possibility of applying interim mechanisms to start the free trade agreement as soon as possible, reaching the European Union (EU), the progress in negotiations with the EFTA bloc and the reduction of the Common External Tariff (CET) are among the central issues that the Mercorsur Presidents Summit will address next Wednesday in Santa Fe.

The summit will also see the transfer of the pro-tempore presidency of the regional bloc, which performs the functions of Argentina and which, in alphabetical order, will be in the hands of Brazil, partners of Paraguay and Uruguay in the largest trading block in Latin America.

The meeting will officially begin tomorrow with the meeting of the so-called Common Market Group, of a technical nature, during which the Coordinating Officers of the member countries will seek to refine the items of the agenda that will be considered by the Leaders. of state two days later.

Chancellor Jorge Faurie, and the Minister of Production and Labor, Dante Sica, have expected that the summit would work on another provisional approval of the agreement between Mercosur and the EU, even though the Parliament from one of the four limb members delay your treatment.

"The rule is that this agreement is subject to the approval of the four parliaments," said Faurie, adding that "for its provisional application, we are evaluating alternative mechanisms" that will be discussed at the Santa Fe summit, the first after the agreement with the community bloc.
